Origin of the "Ki Leli" Blog

I am trying to add a new menu to my web application. I just realised that the sample code that I had seen the other day is no longer traceable. Since I will now have to wait to go home and check which site I found that code on, I am left with nothing to do for the rest of the day.

Well, when one does not have anything to do, one can always google around :-), so that is what I was doing when one of the search results landed me on the blogger.com "page not found" page.

As I looked at it, I wondered, I've always thought of blogging (one of the excuses being my laziness to setup my own webpage but an undying desire to have one) but was never able to gather the patience to go through the entire blogger.com setup to start my first blog. Maybe it was worth another try :-).

As you can see, I've gotten past the setup. While trying to create my first blog, I thought that I would begin with a technical blog and post all my learnings about new things that I do so that someone somewhere would find it useful when he faces the same problem. Since the latest thing around life was Ubuntu, I decided to create a ubuntu-newbie blog. However, my excitement was short lived as I realised that the url was already taken :-(.

I had thought of making a series of newbie blogs but well ... first 10 meters, and I've already hit the speed breaker (sounds like some road in Bangalore !!).

The phrase "Ki Leli" suddenly struck my mind.

I got married earlier this year in June. My Mama (maternal uncle for the angrej people out there) had also come down from Australia to attend my marriage. The mama-bhaanja affection is legendary. Its been known to the Indian society since the times of Mahabharat :-).

On the eve of my marriage my Mama took the responsibility of entertaining my friends who had come down (come up rather, 'cause they came from down south to attend the marriage up north in Delhi) from Bangalore to attend my marriage. It was one gala evening where thoughts, words of wisdom and desires were in free flow (if you don't know how to have such an evening, chances are that u're still stuck to 8PM or RC ... try Johnny Walker Black Label ... u'll know ;-) ).

On this evening, my Mama told us of his desire to start a group of companies. He had always wanted to name his corporation as "Ki Leli" Group of Companies. (for the angrej out there, "Ki Leli" in Hindi means gain of expertise). Hence, if a company were started in this group which were involved in the field of Steel, it would be called Steel "Ki Leli" Ltd. ... I think you get the picture :-) ... now the fun is limited only by your imagination.

Ok, that was a big detour, but it would be unjust on my part if I did not give credit to my Mama for the "Ki Leli" series of blogs that I intend to write. I realised that neither he nor I were sure when we would muster up the courage to open our own company, however, till then I could use this phrase to rename my 'X'-newbie series of blogs to 'X'-ki-leli series of blogs :-).

So this is the first blog in the "Ki Leli" Blog series. stay tuned for blogs that might interest you.
